Sustainability and Energy Saving Features in New Developments

USING PERTH'S SOLAR ENERGY

Perth is one of the sunniest capital cities in the world. We don’t fully appreciate how this advantage can reduce our power costs and improve the livability of our city.

MARKET DEMANDS SUSTAINABILITY AND ENERGY SAVING FEATURES

According to recent research by Curtin University research fellow, Jemma Green, the mass market is demanding that new developments incorporate energy saving and sustainability features.

CONSUMER DECISION MAKING

Ms. Green found from her research that sustainability and energy saving features rate now significantly when customers are making buying decisions.

“I think what will start happening is that solar panelling will become standard for developments,” Ms Jemma Green

She said rooftops gardens were another option to improve sustainability in apartments and combat the urban “heat island” effect — an increase in temperature that comes from a number of people living close to one another and a lack of green spaces.

Curtin University research fellow Josh Byrne, agreed solar panels were set to be a major trend in Perth apartments.

DEVELOPERS ACKNOWLEDGE TREND

The developer of a new apartment complex in Rivervale agreed with these developing trends saying “…today’s buyer understands the benefits of living a cleaner, greener lifestyle.”
